Seen Without MakeupIsaiah 43:2

Nobody In That Room Cared What I Looked Like

This message is for the woman who was seen at her most unready by strangers during a hard week and found that nothing at all was taken from her

There was a week, and you do not talk about it, and it was not about faces at all.

Something happened. Somebody was ill, or something went wrong, or there was an accident, or a person you love was somewhere you had to be at four in the morning.

And for six days you were in rooms with strangers, at all hours, in whatever you had put on at whatever time you had put it on.

Nurses saw you. Receptionists saw you. Somebody in a corridor at three in the morning saw you and handed you a cup of something.

You did not prepare once. There was no version of that week where preparation existed as a category.

And here is the thing I want to put in front of you, because I do not believe it has ever been counted.

Nothing was taken from you.

Not one thing. Not a friendship, not a standing, not a job. Nobody thought less of you. Nobody in any of those rooms held anything against you, and if you rang any of them today not one would remember what you looked like.

Evidence, or an exception

Here is what happened to that week afterward, and it is the whole subject.

You filed it as an exception.

That is what everybody does. The reasoning is automatic and it goes: that was a crisis, everybody understands in a crisis, the ordinary rules were suspended, and therefore that week does not tell me anything about ordinary life.

And so the most direct evidence you have ever had about what being seen unready actually costs got put in a drawer marked does not count.

You are holding six days of direct evidence in a drawer marked exception, and it has never once been allowed to tell you anything. The Holy Spirit is what takes a woman's own evidence out of the wrong drawer, and Isaiah 43 says what happens when somebody passes through water.

And I want to push on the reasoning, because it does not hold.

It says people made allowances. But that is not what happened. To make an allowance for something, a person has to have noticed it and then decided to overlook it, and nobody in that hospital noticed anything about you at all.

They were doing a job. Their attention was entirely on the thing in front of them, and a person in a corridor was a person in a corridor, and there was no assessment made because there was no assessment to make.

That is not an allowance. That is the actual ordinary condition, which you saw clearly for six days and then decided was a special case.

You are treating the plain truth as a suspension of the rules, and no allowance was ever once made because nothing was ever once noticed. Scripture in Isaiah 43 says when thou passest through the waters I will be with thee, and the Spirit of God is the one who lets a woman keep what a hard week actually taught her.

When thou passest through

There is a promise in Isaiah 43 that is very precise about direction.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee. (Isaiah 43:2, King James Version)

Passest through. Not around. Not over. Through, which means in, and out the other side.

And what is promised is not that the water will not be there. The waters are assumed. The rivers are assumed. What is promised is company in them and that they will not overflow.

You are promised company in the water rather than a way round it, and there has never once been a version of that verse where the river was removed. It is written in Isaiah 43 that when thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee, and the Holy Spirit is the one who was in a hospital corridor with a woman at three in the morning.

And here is the part that this article is actually about.

You did pass through. That is not a hope for the future. It happened, some years ago, in a week you do not talk about, and you came out the other side of it.

Which means that verse is not a promise you are waiting on in that matter. It is a description of something that has already occurred to you, and you have the evidence, and the evidence is that nothing overflowed.

You are on the far side of a river with everything you went in with, and not one thing has ever once been lost in that water. The Spirit of God is what lets a woman read her own history as a fulfilled promise rather than as an exception, and the written word says they shall not overflow thee.

Say what it cost

So here is the assignment, and it is a piece of accounting.

Recall that week out loud, once, and name what it actually cost you.

Out loud, to yourself or to one person. Go through it properly. Who saw you. On which days. In what state.

And then name the losses.

You will find there are none of the kind this article is about. There may be enormous losses of other kinds, and I am not touching those and I am not going to pretend that week was not hard. But in the specific category of what being seen unready cost you, the column is empty.

Say that out loud. The column is empty.

That is the whole exercise, and it takes about four minutes, and it moves a piece of evidence out of a drawer where it has been sitting uselessly for years.

You are able to read your own history as evidence rather than as an exception, and that week has never once been allowed to say what it knows. The written word in Isaiah 43 puts a passing through in the past as well as the future, and the Holy Spirit is what makes four minutes of honest accounting into care rather than into rumination.

The breakthrough

So here is what I believe is going out over a woman who has filed a week as an exception.

You are not owed anything by a room full of strangers, and six days in a corridor has never once cost you a single thing in the category you have been frightened of. I am not going to tell you that week was not hard, because it was hard and there may be losses in it that this article does not touch. Isaiah 43 says when thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my saying so who takes evidence out of the wrong drawer.

And this, which is the word I came here carrying:

You are already on the far side of a river you passed all the way through, and not one thing has ever once overflowed you in it. The Spirit of God is the one who lets a woman read her own history as a promise that was kept, and the written word says through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee.

Four minutes. Say what it cost. The column is empty.

Declare this over yourself

  1. Week I filed under does not count, you are evidence and you were never an exception. Isaiah 43:2 says the rivers shall not overflow thee, so by the Holy Spirit I name out loud this week what it actually cost, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Fear that they were making allowances, you have never once been the truth, because nothing was ever noticed. The written word promises company in the water rather than a way round it, and by the Holy Spirit I am done keeping my own evidence in the wrong drawer.
  3. Father, You were in that corridor at three in the morning and never once absent from it. Your word in Isaiah 43:2 says through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee, so by Your Spirit I read that week as a promise kept and let warmth be care tonight.

Why we ask you to say these out loud

The word this stands on
